Create and manage promo codes
Create and manage promo codes
Outcome
You will create a promo code with a percentage or fixed-amount discount, set usage limits and a valid window, restrict it to specific ticket types, and verify the usage counter tracks redemptions on the storefront.
Before you start
- Sign in to the RushTik admin as an organiser-owner or organiser-admin.
- Your tier must be Growth or above. Promo codes are not available on Starter.
- Complete UG-CP-001 and UG-CP-002 — you need a published event with ticket types.
- Commission is collected from prepaid credit before tickets are issued. Issuance hard-blocks when the prepaid balance is 0 MMK or below; existing valid tickets are never affected.
Note: Promo codes are a Growth+ feature. On the Starter tier, the Promo codes nav item is hidden and the promo API returns 403. Upgrade to Growth to access promo codes.
Steps
1. Open the promo codes page
Open your published event from the Events list. Select Promo codes from the event page.
Expected result: the promo codes page opens showing an empty list (or existing promo codes if any have been created). An Add promo code button is visible.
2. Create a promo code
Select Add promo code. Fill the form:
- Code:
LAUNCH10 - Discount type:
Percentage - Discount value:
10(10% off) - Max uses:
50 - Valid from: today's date.
- Valid until: the event date.
- Valid ticket types: select GA — General Admission.
Select Create promo code.
Expected result: the promo code appears in the list with a usage counter showing "0/50 used". The code, discount, and validity window are displayed.
3. Verify on the storefront
Open the storefront for the event. On the checkout page, locate the promo code
input field. Enter LAUNCH10 and apply it.
Expected result: the order total is reduced by 10% for the GA ticket type. The promo code input shows a success confirmation. The usage counter on the admin promo codes page increments by 1.
4. Verify usage limits
Continue applying the promo code until the max uses (50) is reached. Attempt to apply the promo code a 51st time.
Expected result: on the 51st attempt, the storefront rejects the promo code with a message "This promo code has reached its usage limit." The admin usage counter shows "50/50 used".
Troubleshooting
- Promo codes nav item is missing: your tier is Starter. Promo codes require Growth or above. Upgrade to access the feature.
- Promo code not accepted on storefront: check that the code is within its valid window (start and end dates), has not reached max uses, and the ticket type in the cart is one of the valid ticket types for that promo.
- Discount applies to the wrong ticket type: the promo code only applies to the ticket types selected during creation. Edit the promo code and add or remove ticket types.
- Usage counter not incrementing: the counter updates on successful checkout, not on promo entry. Complete a purchase to see the counter update.
